When do Local Ski Resorts open their Slopes.
SEPTEMBER 30, 2016 • NEWS LOGDEN LODGE • BY ANNELIES ELLERMAN
It is early to think about Winter, in fact, we only just starting to see the Fall colors here at Logden Lodge. But if you do, like most of us here in the Kootenays, opening dates of ski resorts are an excellent reference point for when that famous champagne powder will arrive here each year. When ski resorts in the area open their slopes it means it has been snowing for a while so A-Lot of snow is packed on the mountains to cover that rough mountain terrain.
We are joint to the hip with Whitewater Ski Resort (WH2O) in, what the locals call, the Snow Valley. Just 20 minutes drive away we are the closest hotel accommodation to this beautiful family orientated resort. The area's still hidden gem with over 12 meters (40 feet) of light, dry, powder snow every season beneath the majestic Ymir Peak is planning it’s opening date on December 9th.
The location of our Lodge, especially during the winter months, is just unique. Not only are we close to WH2O and surrounded by acres and acres of backcountry terrain free to explore, we are also a mere 50 minutes drive away from another impressive resort; RED Mountain in Rossland with 4200 skiable acres. RED’s opening is scheduled on December 10th.
